Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. She did not consider a career in acting until after she had reached the age of adulthood due to her parents being worried about the detrimental consequences stress can have. Perry admitted that she wasn't at ease in the stage during high school. She began performing as a means to meet new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry made her debut as an actress in New York after graduation, landing minor parts on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and find work as a stage actress. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. Kevin McKidd, her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie together with her in 2015. Perry was a part of the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, Perry was a part-time character in the ABC political drama Scandal in which her father was the main character. In the same year, she was cast as a younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen model of the mother's role. The character was chosen via auditions the fact that she had a deep association with it.
